You may be wondering what coaching is all about. Well..
- It's about challenging and changing something you're unsure or uncomfortable with and making it more like you want it to be. A typical example? Clients often find that they are finding relationships difficult (with their boss, colleagues or direct reports, say). Our job is to focus on how they want those relationships to be and explore what is likely to help them achieve the ideal. We have a wealth of tools that can help but sometimes just taking the time out to explore what they want is the biggest help.
- It's about you, it's not about the coach. We will spend almost all the time talking about your challenges, your aspirations and your actions. When your coach is talking s/he's likely to be sharing some tools and techniques we recommend or offering some feedback or personal insight that we judge may help.
- It's about your potential to be the person that you want to be and have the job and life that you want to have. We won't accept the easy answers, we'll invite you to raise your game and challenge you to ask yourself "is this what I really want?".
- It's about helping you to help yourself. Clients often ask our opinions on things, "what would you do?". This is how we typically answer: "I promise to answer your question but at the moment I don't want to contaminate your ideas and thoughts with my own. If I promise to answer the question could we both hear your ideas first?". Does that sound like a cop-out? Well, we believe in encouraging people to believe in themselves and rely more on their own insights and intuition. It's too easy to give people the answer - don't most people in our lives already do that? This is about giving you time, support and space to work things out for yourselves. We're always amazed at what fantastic solutions people design for themselves - with just a little bit of listening, belief and encouragement.
