I’m Helena and I coach in the work context, which inevitably involves some whole life stuff, but is focused mainly on developing potential in the world of work. I’ve been coaching since 1994, after 15 years working in fine art and loss adjusting, including fraud investigation. Since my full time MBA in 1992 I have had a portfolio career: project facilitating and managing, coaching, and large scale change interventions often with names including the words ‘leadership’ or ‘communications’.
I coach teams as well as individuals and thrive on working with those in exposed positions (newly appointed General Managers or Board members, project managers, change owners, very senior civil servants etc) and … guess what … they are human too.
Coaching has been the backbone of all of my work since ’94 and I plan to keep it that way.
In terms of qualifications I do use the general business knowledge developed by the MBA, as well as Myers Briggs (built on Jung’s personality type work), EQi (emotional intelligence). I am trained as a mediator and have an interest in dispute resolution.
My style is one of a light touch because this is so important. There is often laughter and working together to create mental models to help make sense of what’s going on. As an “optimist with a health warning” – I consider that there is always a way – we just have to work through a few options ‘til we find the answer. I find opportunities for a bit more courage, trust, truth and humour, often uncovering unspoken limiting assumptions and challenging them. Working with a number of clients at any one time allows for (confidential) cross fertilisation of ideas and approaches.
